In their retirement, Gene and Shirley spend their time at the Mohawk Trails Golf Course near their home on Route 551. However, since Lyden Oil Company still needs his services, Gene is employed part time there.

Wendell (Gene) Bell, 84

Wendell Gene Bell, 84, of North Beaver Township passed away on Thursday morning, Feb. 16, 2012, at his residence in Mount Jackson.

He was born in Lackawannock Township on Jan. 18,1928, a son of the late William Wendell and Stella Thompson Bell.

After graduation, Gene entered into service with the Navy and served for four years as a Seabee. After receiving an honorable discharge, Gene met and married his wife, the former Shirley Jacobson, on June 23, 1951, and she survives.

Gene had worked in the construction and maintenance department at the Lyden Oil Co. before retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Bethel Church in Enon Valley, and enjoyed golfing and hunting in his retirement.

Gene leaves behind his wife, Shirley; a son Gregory Bell and his wife, Diana of Stillwater, Okla.; a daughter, Sandra McCready and her husband, Don of Enon Valley; a sister, Elizabeth Arent and her husband, Alan also of Enon Valley; and a brother, Hugh Bell of Fountain Inn, S.C. Gene also leaves four grandchildren, Donald McCready, Jennifer Thumm, Daniel McCready and Katy Lilly; and three great grandsons, Garrett, Chase and Lukas Thumm.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, June Fisher and Nancy Cornell; and sister-in-law, Barbara.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at the Bethel UP Church in Enon Valley. A church service will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, in the Bethel UP Church with the Rev. Mark Tippin officiating. Arrangements are by the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home, 203 Oak St., Bessemer. There will be a private family graveside service in the cemetery.
