Medford K. Newman, Sr. Mr. Medford Kyle Newman, Sr., 83, formerly of Mexico, Ind., died today at 2 a.m. in the Rochester nursing home where he had been a patient since March, 1967. Mr. Newman had been ill for five years. Born May 28, 1887, in Cass county, he was the son of Thomas I. and Katie Junkin Newman. His marriage was in June of 1908, to Mildred Anderson. A lifetime resident of Mexico and a member of the Brethren church there, he had been a farmer and an Indiana State trooper. Survivors include two sons, Clement I. Newman of R.R. 2, Rochester, and Medford K. Newman, Jr., of Hobart; seven grandchildren, including Samuel K. Newman of R.R. 2, Rochester, and one great-granddaughter. One sister and three brothers preceded him in death. Final rites have been tentatively set for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Foster & Good funeral home. The Rev. Floyd Sibert will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenlawn cemetery, Mexico. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Mildred C. Ireland, 86, 1109 Pontiac street, died at 3 p.m. Friday at Woodlawn hospital. Mrs. Ireland was born July 16, 1890, in Cass county to Clement and Martha Ann Fox Anderson and had lived in Rochester 7 1/2 years, moving here from Richland township. She married Marion Ireland in 1943 at Reno, Nev.; he survives. She was a member of the First Brethren church and the Vashti chapter of Eastern Star at Mexico. Surviving with Mr. Ireland are a son, Medford Kyle Newman Jr., Hobart; a sister, Mrs. Mable A. Smith, Mexico; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A son, Clement Newman, preceded in death. Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home. Burial will be at the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call Sunday after 2 p.m. Eastern Star services will be conducted at the funeral home Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
