Dwight Horine, the eldest son, was born April 17, 1914. Dwight was a Federal Protective Officer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and for 47 years lived on a farm west of Eaton, Ohio. He married Catharine "Kate" Wright on December 31, 1937. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage before death took Kate after planting roses. Though Dwight served in the army for almost five years, he lived in the Eaton area his whole life. Kate was the cook at the Preble County jail for many years and also worked in retail. Active in the V.F.W. and the ladies auxiliary, Dwight and Kate served their country and community through their volunteer projects. Kate frequently planned the Memorial Day parade through Eaton. Dwight is known as a sharp card player, following in his father's tradition.


EATON--Sgt. Dwight Horine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Horine, 1029 N. Market st., Eaton, is serving with the armed forces somewhere in the war zone. He was a member of the Eaton unit of the Ohio national guard nine years, was inducted in army service in October, 1940, and sent to Camp Shelby. After serving a year he was released and was employed in Dayton prior to being recalled for service early this year. His wife resides on an Eaton rural route.

Dwight L. Horine

Dwight L. Horine, 90, of Eaton, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at his home.

Born April 17, 1914, in Monroe Township (Preble County), he was the son of Alva B. and Blanche L. (Deem) Horine. He retired in 1971 after 30 years at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Horine was a member of American Legion Post #215 and VFW Post #8066, both of Eaton, and DAV #104 in Lewisburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary K. Horine, in 1998; and brothers Raymond, Dale and Junior Horine.

Survivors include two brothers, Ralph Horine and Robert Horine, both of Eaton; and six sisters, Helen Zimmerman, Jean DeHart and Doris Clark, all of Eaton, Thelma Agne of Battle creek, Mich., Mary Davenport of Dallas, Texas, and Jan Schultz of Palmetto, Fla.

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 27, at Barnes Funeral Home-Eaton Chapel, with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Burial, with military honors by the Preble County Honor Guard, was in Mound Hill Cemetery, Eaton.
