Pfc. Horine Getting Plenty of Action

Pfc. Junior Horine, 1029 North Maple Street, Eaton, veteran fighter of Bouganville, on his first combat patrol in the Philippines, accompanied the famed Filipine guerrillas and saw how they were able to kill four Japanese within a period of five hours.

"The guerrilla are so fast with those tommy guns that they had the Japs shot before I even knew what was going on," the soldier commented. "I can understand now why they are able to harass the Nips and do so much damage before the American forces arrived."

Horine, a rifleman in a front line company of the American Division and holder of the Combat Infantryman Badge for exemplary conduct in action against the enemy, has been overseas 14 months. He also wears the Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with one battle star.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Horine, the Eaton soldier was formerly employed as a sub-contractor for the National Venetian Blind Co. He has three brothers in the service - Privates Dwight and Ralph in the Infantry and Dale, a sergeant in the Air Corps stationed in the Pacific theater.
