D 10 Matthew Johnston Junkin, born May 16, 1829 in Wheeling, (West) Virginia, died May 21, 1887 in Fairfield county, Iowa. Married (1) March 13, 1855 Eliza Ellen Moorman, born March 9, 1835 in Highland County, Ohio, died September 28, 1870. Both are buried in Moorman cemetery, Jefferson County, Iowa. Matthew Married (2) Maranda Ellen Sinclair, died November 26, 1871. Married (3) May 6, 1884 at Centerville, Iowa by the Rev. Wallace Thorp, Martha (Mattie) J. Shaffer, born 1845.

Matthew Johnson Junkin was a colorful figure. He went to California with the 49ers and stayed five years; returned to Iowa, but in 1859 took his family to Colorado and located a silver mine at Silver Bluff, Colorado. He also mined in Washington and Idaho territories, and is said to have made and lost several fortunes.
