E1 Joseph de Forest Junkin, born April 16, 1855, died April 14, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; married October 10, 1878 Mary Robinson McCord, born January 27, 1853. Mary was the daughter of John Davidson McCord and Rosanna Blaine Robinson. Three children.

Joseph attended Preparatory School until 1870, presided over by Dr. John Ferris, entering then the Collegiate Department of the University of Pennsylvania, class of 1872 and graduated with a degree of B.A. He was the founder of the University Glee Club and in his senior year was the Ivy Orator, winning the Greek prize. Three years after his graduation the University conferred upon him the degree of M.A. Meanwhile he had taken up the study of law in his father's office, and in 187_ was admitted to the bar. Entering immediately in his native city of Philadelphia upon the practice of his chosen profession, he built up a profitable clientelle and an assured reputation for the posession of all the qualities necessary for a successful career at the Bar. In his later years he devoted his time largely to corporation law and was reatained as confidential counsel of many extensive corporate and financial interests in Philadelphia and other cities. He was a solicitor of the Real Estate Truist Company, as well as a Director.

His other interests included Trusteeships in Jefferson Medical College and Lafayette College. He belonged to the Sons of the Revolution and the St. Andrew Society and his clubs were the Lawyers (of which he was a director), The Union League Art, Pen, Bachelors Barge, Philadelphia Country, Merion Cricket, and for 40 years was a member of the Orpheus Club, of which he was president in 1911 and 1912. Yachting waws his chief recreation and he belonged to the New York Yacht Club. For 15 years he owned and cruised on the old America's cup defender "Columbia" and in 1q900 and 1901, served as Vice Commodore of the Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia.
