J2 William H. Summers, was born September 18, 1851 in Middletown, Maryland, and died May 02, 1916; Buried at Mt. Olivet, Frederick, Md. He married Clara V. Barnes April 02, 1878, daughter of Thomas Barnes and Mary ??. Two children.


William H. Summers, retired, spent his active life in agricultural pursuits. He is a substantial citizen of Braddock District. He was born in Middletown Valley, Frederick County, September 18, 1851, and is a son of Henry W. and Esther (Derr) Summers.

He received a public school education. He remained on the home farm until he was twenty-seven years old, when he secured a position with P. L. Hargett & Company, of Frederick City. He was in the employ of this concern for a period of ten years. In March, 1890, Mr. Summers purchased the place on which he is now resides from Joseph Fleming's heirs. This farm is in Braddock District, three miles west of Frederick on the Hagerstown pike, and the large brick dwelling house on the place, still in a good state of preservation, was erected in the early part of 1800. Mr. Summers is one of the substantial citizens of the district. He is a stockholder in the Valley Savings Bank of Middletown, and is one of the trustees of the public school at Braddock. In 1908 he retired from active farming, and has since enjoyed the fruits of his industry and business ability.

Mr. Summers was married to Clara V. Barnes, daughter of Thomas and Mary Barnes, of Frederick City. They are the parents of two children: one--------- , died young; and John W., who is cultivating the home farm. He is married to Miss. Baker, daughter of Christian Baker, by who he has two children, Mildred B. and William C. William C. Summers and his family are members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, in which he has held the offices of deacon and elder for a number of years.
