Eccard August 1938 in Myersville, Maryland, daughter of Harry Eccard and Orpha Stottlemyer. Mamie I. Eccard was a Democrat, a housewife, and her religion was the EUB. Children.

"Myersville Man, Active Democrat, Had Been In Poor Health Long Time"

Dawson J. Horine, well-known resident of Myersville and prominent Frederick County Democrat, died unexpectedly at The Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, shortly before Tuesday midnight. He was 56 years of age.

In failing health over an extended period, Mr. Horine had recently returned home following six weeks observation and treatment at University Hospital, Baltimore. His condition took a turn for the worse early Tuesday evening and he was removed to the hospital at Hagerstown, death following several hours later.

Extremely active in Democratic circles, he has served his party as delegate to State conventions and some years ago was a candidate for congress from the Sixth District. In private life, he was the eastern sales representative for the Empire Varnish Company, of Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Myersville High School, Shenandoah College and was a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College. He was a member of B.P.O. Elks, Jeffersonian Democratic Club, and the Jackson District Democratic Committee. Mr. Horine was also president of the Myersville Lions Club.

A son of the late Alvey J., and Elizabeth Flook Horine, he was born April 23, 1900. Surviving are his wife Mamie I. Eccard Horine; a son, Barry P. Horine. and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Horine. The following brothers and sisters also survive; Dr. Cyrus F. Horine and Alvey H. Horine, both of Baltimore; Ethel Ruppersberger, Trenton, N. J., and Mrs Miriam Blickenstaff, York, Pa.

The body is at the Gladhill funeral home in Middletown, where services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, DST, with Rev. Roger Keech and Raymond L. Markley officiating. The following members of the Myersville Lions Club will serve as bearers: W. R. Falkenstein, Everett Pyles, A. D. Flook, Jr., George Rice, Willis Brunner and Cecil Pryor. Interment will be in the United Brethren Cemetery at Myersville. Gladhill Company, funeral directors. The family requests that flowers be omitted and any donations be made to the American Cancer Society.


In a news letter called "Lion Tales & Tails" of October 5, 1953, a pamphlet for the members of the Myersville Lions Club, in which the editor, Dawson Horine, related how well an organized "Ladies Night" was received and how honored they were of the singing by his nephew, Alvey Ruppersberger. He further stated the following:
"He or she, who dotes on gossip, toys with the presumptive rather than the facts, or condemns a fellow citizen at the slightest provocation, could well come from Myersville."
