James Lee Fisher Jr.

James Lee Fisher Jr., of Copley, Ohio, passed away Nov. 24, 2002, after a brief illness.

Mr. Fisher was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on Dec. 22, 1919. He was a graduate of Duke University in mechanical engineering. He worked at Goodyear Aircraft Corp. and retired in 1982 after 35 years with Schrader-Bellows, for which he was vice president of engineering. Mr. Fisher was a past president of the National Fluid Power Association and was the first chairman of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group. He served on the Copley Township Zoning Commission and the Summit County Planning Commission.

Mr. Fisher was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. James Lee and Ethel Fisher. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Maxine Sumner, and sons, James (Nancy) of Akron, John (Carole) of Lisbon; daughter, Cheryl of Wadsworth; brother, Dr. Robert R. Fisher of Youngstown; and sister, Margaret Acosta of California.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., with Dr. Jay Marshall Groat officiating. Friends may call one hour before services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to one's favorite charity.

Maxine S. Fisher, 85, of Copley Township, passed away June 14, 2006, after a brief illness.

She was born in Akron, Ohio, on February 4, 1921, to George A. and Ruth Sumner. She attended Smith College and earned her B.A. from The Ohio State University in 1943. She later earned a B.S. from the University of Akron. She taught in the Copley-Fairlawn School District, mostly at Fort Island Elementary. Mrs. Fisher belonged to the Stan Hywet Women's Auxiliary Board, and twice chaired the Ohio Mart. She was a member of the Smith College Club of Akron and the Junior League of Akron. She served on the board of the Children's Concert Society of Akron and belonged to the First Congregational Church of Akron.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, James L. Fisher, Jr.; her brother, G. Robert Sumner; and her daughter-in-law, Nancy L. Fisher; she is survived by her son, James L. Fisher of Bath Township; her daughter, Cheryl S. Fisher of Wadsworth; her son, John D. (Carole) Fisher of Lisbon, Ohio; and her sister, Marilyn Babcox of Cleveland.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 19, at the Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel, 85 N. Miller Rd., Akron 44333 with Rev. David Lohr officiating. The family will receive visitors 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a donation be made to the Stan Hywet Hall Foundation, 714 N. Portage Path, Akron 44303 or the donor's favorite charity.
