Harold E. Royer, age 87, of North Canton, passed away Saturday, March 29th., in Aultman Hospital. A lifetime resident of the North Canton area, he was the son of the late Ervin and Alice (Mohler) Royer; and was a graduate of North Canton High School in 1938. He saw service in World War II as an Officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was Northeastern Sales Manager for the Pacific Lumber Company for 36 years representing them in the northeastern U.S. and eastern Canada before retiring in 1985. Harold was a lifelong dedicated member of Zion United Church of Christ and served as both Deacon and Elder. Following his retirement he accepted the part-time position of Financial Secretary at his church from 1987 thru 2006. He was past president of the North Canton Jaycees, the North Canton Rotary Club, the Canton Automobile Club and the North Canton Public Library Board, and served as foreman of the Stark County Grand Jury. He was a member of the North Canton Elks and William H. Hoover Masonic Lodge, and received the Wayne E. Carpenter Award for outstanding community service from the North Canton Area Chamber of Commerce. He was accepted for membership in both Mensa and Intertel.

His parents and sister, Ruth Tambling, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, having celebrated 66 years together; son and daughter-in-law, John and Jennie Royer; brother and sister-in- law, Glenn and Millie Royer; four grandchildren, Richard, Randall, Jonathan and Jennifer; and three great-grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew and Samantha Royer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2nd., at Zion United Church of Christ in North Canton with Reverend Eli Klingensmith officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Church of Christ in his memory.
