Obituary of William Patrick McGriffOBITUARY -- McGRIFF
William P. McGriff was born in Butler township. Darke county, August 3, 1850, and died at his late home in Butler township, near Castine, Ohio, June 4, 1916, aged 65 years, 10 months and 1 day.
He was married to Melzonia Braddock Feb. 18, 1875, and to this union were born four children, Clayton and Gorman McGriff, of whom live in the near vicinity, and Doctor D. W. T. McGriff of Lima. Ohio. The daughter, Flora McGriff Poyner, preceded him in death some two years ago and the wife four years ago.
Mr. McGriff was a man of good spirits and a noble type of manhood, a good father, a good neighbor and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He has always been active in politics, and in several occasions has held minor offices.
He was called away Sunday evening, June 4th, at 6 oclock, after having suffered eight months. But our loss will be his eternal gain. It seems sad that he should be taken away, but we submissively bow to him who "Doeth all things well." He will be most sadly missed by his many relatives and friends. Melzonia Braddock McGriff was born in Preble county, January 20, 1855, and died at her late home in Butler township, near Castine, Ohio, May 27, 1912, aged 57 years, 4 months and 7 days.
She was married to William P. McGriff February 18, 1875, and to this happy union were born four children, Clayton McGriff, Mrs. Flora McGriff and Gorman McGriff Poyner, Dr. De Witt T. McGriff and Gorman McGriff, all of whom live in the near vicinity.
Mrs. McGriff was a lovely spirit and a noble type of womanhood, a kind mother, a good neighbor and always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She will be most sadly missed by her many relative and friends. It sees sad that she should be taken away, but we submissively bow to him who "Doeth all things well."
During her four years of suffering she bore her ordeal well and never asked help from anyone, only when it was deemed necessary.
We have the consolation of knowing that she is not lost to us, but only gone before. She leaves to mourn her loss a good husband, four children, two grandchildren, one brother, three sisters, with many other relatives and friends to mourn her earthly reparture.
May the All-Good Father, "Who notices the fall of the sparrow," comfort the sorrowing and bereaved ones.
The funeral services were held at the Castine U. B. Church on May 29th, at 2 p. m., conducted by Rev. Watson. Burial in the Castine Cemetery.
