Luther and his two older siblings (Elmer E. born 1868 and Eliza Ellen born 1870) were all three born in a log house about six miles south of Fort Recovery, OH, on the south side of Peters Road about one and one-half miles east of the Hillgrove & Fort Recovery Road where their parents, Lewis and Mary Amanda had homesteaded an 80-acre farm. In 1880, when Luther was about six, the family built and moved into an 8-room house with four porches and a full basement located just across on the north side of Peters Road.

When Luther and Dora Etta got married in 1984, their father Lewis bought a house and moved to Fort Recovery where he died in 1900. Luther's mother, Mary Amanda and Dora Etta's Mother, Sarah, continued to live in the house Lewis had built to replace the log house at the old homeplace on the south side of Peters Road. The Four Generations picture was taken at the homeplace the day before Sarah Reichard died in 1905.
