Phillip E. Bradish, 98, of Jacksonville died Wednesday morning May 26, 2004 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born Nov. 3, 1905, in Pontiac, the son of Walter Chambers and Mahala Cairns Bradish. He married June Elsa Olney on Oct. 26, 1945, in East Chicago, Ind., and she survives.

He is also survived by three children. Alan P. (wife, Maureen) Bradish of Jacksonville, Janice Cairns Bradish (companion, Richard Balcerzak) of Brooklyn Park, Minn. and Joan Bradish Edwards of Superior Wis.; three grandchildren , Abagail Ann (husband, Clint) Stevens of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sarah E. Bradish of Carbondale, and Jarrod (wife, Jean) January of San Pedro, Calif., four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Walter C. "Bill" Cairns Jr. (wife, Janet) Bradish of Lantana, Fla.

Mr. Bradish attended Jacksonville Public Schools, where his mother served as a one time school board member. He is a 1929 graduate of Illinois College and was a member of Gamma Nu Literary Society. He served as Morgan County circuit clerk and recorder of deeds for multiple terms being elected to his second term while serving in the 8th Air Force in England during World War II. After leaving public office he accepted employment with his alma mater as director of student financial aid services at Illinois College. He also brokered insurance ands real estate in the Jacksonville area for many years. He and his family were members of the First Presbyterian Church where he served at one time on the church board. He was a member of Harmony Lodge 3 A.F. & A.M. and Zingabad Grotto. he was also a member of the local American Legion Post 279, AMVET Post 100, The Club, and served on the board of the Heritage Cultural Center.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Family will meet friends one hour prior to services at the church. Lunch will be served to family and friends at the church following the burial. Memorials are suggested to Illinois College or First Presbyterian Church. Cody & Son Memorial Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.

JACKSONVILLE

June Olney Bradish, 85, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 5, 2005, at her residence.

She was born April 9, 1920, in East Chicago, the daughter of Harrison B. and Elisa Stuhrman Olney. She married Phillip E. Bradish Oct. 26, 1945 in East Chicago, Ind. and he preceded her in death May 26, 2004.

She is survived by one son, Alan P. (wife, Maureen) of Jacksonville, two daughters, Janice Cairns Bradish (husband, Richard Balcerzak) of Brooklyn Park, Minn. and Joan Bradish Edwards of Superior, Wis., three grandchildren, Abagail Ann (husband, Clint) Stevens of Jacksonville, Sarah E. Bradish of Springfield and Jarrod (wife, Jean) January of San Pedro, Calif.; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Nanci Mahan of New Haven, Mich.; and one brother, Stuart (wife, Dianne) Olney of Morton Grove. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harrison "Bud" Olney, Deane Onley and Brice Olney.

Mrs. Bradish graduated from MacMurry College in 1942. She was a physical education instructor at Franklin College in Franklin, Ind., for two years before retiring to MacMurry College as an instructor. While there she earned her Master's Degree in 1944. She also taught at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, for two summers. After completing her teaching contract at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, from 1944-46, she made Jacksonville her permanent home. She was a volunteer for the organizations she believed in and when her children reached school age she resumed her teaching career. For several years she taught at Illinois College and then joined the MacMurry faculty for 10 years. In the 1970s she commenced the last decade in the Franklin/Alexander school district. After her retirement she continued her volunteering and love for bridge and family.

Mrs. Bradish organized and taught the Morgan County Red Cross Swim Program for 25 years, helping hundreds of local youth to learn to swim. She was a 60-year member of First Presbyterian Church, a member and former President of Morgan County Republican Women's Club, was active in Girl Scouts, a member of PEO and College Hill, in which she had served as President and held other offices. She had been a treasurer of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and was a charter member of the Heritage Cultural Center. She also served on the board of the Jacksonville Public Library, volunteered with the Books fore the Blind Program, was a longtime Alumni volunteer for MacMurry College and was a 12-year member of Explorer's Bible Study.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends at the church Saturday from 10:30 until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to MacMurry College or First Presbyterian Church.
