B7 Matilda Fisher, born July 4, 1794 in Maryland, died September 7, 1873* in Pultney Township, Belmont county Ohio, buried in Davis Workman Cemetery (A.K.A. the "Davis Burying Ground" from 1810-1859, Center Hill Cemetery, Davis Cemetery, & Protestant Cemetery), Bellaire, Ohio; married 1815 in Harrison County, Ohio Boston (Sebastian) Roush, Sr., born 1790/91 in Mifflin township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, died July 26, 1829 in Pultney Township, Belmont county, Ohio. Four Children. He is also buried in the Davis Workman Cemetery, Bellaire, Ohio.

Boston Roush Sr. was the second son of George W. Roush (born 1760 - 4 miles from Hagerstown, Maryland, died March 4, 1856) and Elizabeth (Reischer) Risher (born between 1760 & 1765, died between 1847 & 1849). George W. Roush was a Revolutionary War soldier (view Revolutionary War record).

In the 1820 census for Green Township, Harrison County, Ohio for Boston Roush, living nearby is George Fisher who is Matilda's father, and Jacob(?) and Thomas Fisher, her brothers. In Boston's home are 1 male under 10, 1 female under 10, 1 male 26-45 and 1 female 26-45. Boston would be about 30 and Matilda about 26. The children under 10 are probably Margaret and George. There may be 1 male slave.

* Matilda's date of death is shown on her tombstone as Nov. 7, 1872. However, Belmont Co., Ohio Death Book, Vol. I, (1868-1884) Pg. 65, No. 202, shows her death date as Sept. 7, 1873, age 78 years, 2 months.


Boston Roush Sr. was the second son of George W. Roush and his wife, Elizabeth (Reischer) Risher from family history set down by Boston Roush, Jr. and in the possession of Mrs. Clark of Columbus, Ohio. Boston Roush Sr. was born between 1790-1791, Mifflin Twp, Allegheny Co., Pa, and died July 26, 1829, Pultney Twp., Belmont Co., Ohio. Buried Center Hill Cemetery, Bellaire, Ohio, Belmont Co. Married about 1816, Harrison Co., Ohio, Matilda Fisher (daughter of George and Elizabeth Fisher, Green Twp., Harrison Co., Ohio, born July 4, 1794, Maryland, died Nov. 9, 1873, Pultney Twp., Belmont Co., Ohio, buried Center Hill Cemetery, Bellaire, Ohio.

Boston Roush Sr. estate was administered by his brother, Henry, and his widow, Matilda (Fisher) Roush. (Journal D, pg. 394, Estate File 796, Belmont Co., Ohio, Sept. 22, 1829). At the sale of goods and equipment, Henry Roush and another brother, Abraham Roush, bought a number of items.

A Circuit Court Belmont Co. entry for 15 June 1830 gives the following information:

"On motion the court do appoint Oliver Dunfield, guardian of these persons and property, George Roush, age 11 years the 4 day of March 1830 (B 1819), Boston Roush aged 9 the 16 day of September last, Thomas Roush aged 7 years on the 10th. day of March last, and William Roush aged 3 years the 10th. day of Feb. last, children and heirs at law of Boston Roush, late of said county, deceased, and the court order that said guardian enter into bond with security in the sum of $300.00 conditioned as the law in that behalf directs, and George Stannes and Rosewell Beach is accepted as such security."
These dates of birth do not correspond to the dates we have been given in the past; George 10 Mar. 1817, Boston 16 Sept. 1819, William 10 Feb. 1822, and Thomas 4 Mar. 1824. Their dates of birth have been changed to reflect the above information. A Margaret Roush is not mentioned. It is not known how Oliver Dunfield/Dunfee fits with the Roush family.
