DOUBLE DEATH AT PEEBLES

W. H. McMillen and Wife Answer Final Call at Near Same Hour.

Both Were Stricken With the Same Disease, Pneumonia--the Double Funeral Sunday Was One of the Largest Ever Held in the County.

Two deaths of unusual pathos occurred near Peebles Friday morning when Mr. and Mrs. McMillen passed away.

While death is the commonest thing in the world yet it carries with it a shock; but the shock was doubly severe when the messenger of death claimed this worthy couple.

After three weeks illness of pneumonia Mrs. McMillen died Friday morning at eight o'clock, one hour after the spirit of Mr. McMillen took its flight. Devoted in life, inseparable in death.

Both were victims of pneumonia, The sad tidings of the demise of Mr. and Mrs. McMillen cast an unpenetrable gloom. Life long residents of the community in which they died, they were admired for their strict integrity and sterling qualities. Both were comparatively young, Mr. McMillen being 49 and his wife 50.

Mr. McMillen was one of the progressive citizens of the county, a member of the K. of P. and Modern Woodmen and identified for years with the fair association as secretary. He also held at times positions of trusts, appointive and elective in Meigs, his home township.

Mrs. McMillen was a prominent member of the Pythian Sisters and Royal Neighbors. She was a devoted wife, he a loyal husband, and hand in hand they entered the Eternal City. Two daughters, both happily married, are left to mourn the demise of doting parents.

Mr. McMillen is also survived by his aged mother, Mrs. S. J. McMillen, and two brothers, D C., of Peebles, and S. L., of this place.

Mrs. McMillen leaves two brothers, John Hamilton, of Peebles, and Roscoe Hamilton, of Highland, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Eakins, of Bel and Mrs. Amanda Shreffer, of North Liberty.

The funeral took place from the M. E. church at Peebles, Sunday morning. Friends from far and near, who had known them in life and appreciated their friendship, gathered to pay the last tribute to the departed. The floral offerings were beautiful beyond description. The remains were laid to rest in Locust Grove cemetery, there overlooking the scenes of their childhood they sleep together.
