Warren Dwight Abbott, Jr. (1907-1994)
F5 Ruth Martindale Junkin, was born April 16, 1910 in Austin, Texas, and died November 9, 1991 in Austin, Texas. She married Warren Dwight Abbott, Jr. August 9, 1984 in Austin, Texas. He was born November 28, 1907 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and died November 10, 1994 in Austin, Texas.

Ruth grew up with her four brothers in Austin, Texas. Her father used to say that he had four sons and each one had a sister. He did not say that each brother's sister was the same person. She received a B.S. from the University of Texas and a Degree in Library Science from Columbia University. She spent her entire career as a librarian. She was the first librarian at the University Junior High School in Austin, Texas. During World War II she was in the Navy and was the Librarian at the Connecticut Naval Base. Upon leaving the Navy she was the Library Supervisor for the all Austin Independent School District (1946-1973).

Ruth met Warren Abbott at the Westminster Manor retirement home in Austin where they each had an apartment. He finally convinced her to marry him in 1984. They were married at the University Presbyterian Church, not too far from Westminster Manor. They invited all the old people from the home to come to the wedding, but since most of them did not drive they had to rent a school bus to transport all the old people to the wedding.

Warren served as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre from 1942 until 1945. He received a B.A. in English Literature from Yale University in 1930, and a M.A. in English Literature from the University of Missouri in 1940. Warren was a journalist having worked for the Tulsa World, Chicago Tribune, and Brownsville Times newspapers, and also as a free lance writer for trade publications.
