DEATH CLAIMS O. C. CUSTER HERE AFTER THREE DAY ILLNESS

Retired Postal Worker Was Veteran Of Mail Service

Ollie Clarence Custer, 59, retired postal employee, died at his home, 856 N. King St., Friday morning at 1 o'clock. He had been in failing health for several years but his condition did not become serious until three days ago.

Mr. Custer was born at Peebles. O., October 2, 1876, the son of John and Allie McMillan Custer. He spent his early life there and when a young man went to Brule, Wis., where he taught school for three years and was employed in the Brule post office three years. From there he went to Superior, Wis., where he was engaged in the postal service for several years. Mr. Custer was transferred to Xenia as a clerk in the post office here in September 1906. He remained there until April, 1915, when he was transferred to Detroit, but was transferred back to the Xenia office in March 1917. He was retired on pension September 30, 1927. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Presbyterian Church.

His marriage to Miss Isabelle Dodge took place in Xenia March 7, 1907. His widow survives with the following children: Mrs. Bernice Jackson, Ludlow, Ky.; Mrs. Doris Dunkum, San Francisco; Mrs. Ruth Coniff, Ensley, Ala.; Miss Margaret Custer, at home, and John Custer, who is traveling timekeeper for the WPA in Springfield, but lives here. He leaves a sister, Mrs. J. C. Bacon, of Peebles.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Whitmer and Chitty Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Dr. W. H. Tilford in charge. Interment will be made in Woodland Cemetery and will be private. Friends mat call at the funeral home after 4 p. m. Sunday.
