John C. Miller (1807-1891)

F1 John C. (likely Cramer) Miller, born October 15, 1807, and died July 31, 1891. He married May 2, 1833 Gertraut (Gertrude) Kreider (view marriage), daughter of David Kreider and Gertrude Miller. She was born October 22, 1815, died September 2, 1887. Both are buried in Oakland Cemetery.

John was elected to the office of deacon in the Panther Creek Fraternity of German Baptist district, and when Upper Stillwater was set off in 1854 he was part of that congregation and still later in 1865 when Oakland was organized his membership was with this congregation. A little church history may be in order for a clear understanding. Up until 1836 we had no official church name although most refered to us as Dunkers. In this year Annual Meeting decided on the name of Fraternity of German Baptist which continued until 1871, when the name was again changed to German Baptist Brethren. Also, congregational names were changed, Panther Creek eventually became Sugar Grove and Upper Stillwater became Harris Creek.

G2 Michael K. Miller, born March 6, 1834, died July 8, 1910; married October 21, 1856 DCO, Abigail Martin, born August 26, 1838, died October 27, 1893; d/o Jacob Martin & Susannah Overholser.

G3 David K. Miller, born May 22, 1836, died October 2, 1911; married November 18, 1860 DCO by John Harshey, M.G., Magdalena Wise, born December 20, 1840, died May 20, 1912; d/o Jacob Wise & Christiana Shofe. After their marriage they moved to Jefferson twp, Kosciusko Co IN arriving 7 March 1861, where their children were born and they spent the remainder of their lives, of the 12 children, a son and a daughter predeceased their father.

G6 Moses Miller, born September 4, 1841, died January 21, 1924; married November 8, 1863 Susannah Maurer, born January 2, 1846, died May 4, 1921.

G7 Noah Miller, born October 4, 1843, died February 2, 1936; married February 17, 1867 Mariah Jane (Ullery) Spitler, born March 5, 1838 died October 14, 1921; d/o Daniel Ullery & Catherine Reck; Jane was widow of Samuel M. Spitler.

G8 Daniel Miller, born April 10, 1845, died February 13, 1905; married December 24, 1874, Sarah Jane Detrick, born November 2, 1849, died February 5, 1885; d/o Abraham Detrick & Mahala Judy; Church of the Brethren minister.
